About Lene Fogelberg

Growing up in a small town on the Swedish west coast, Lene Fogelberg developed a love of poetry and reading, nurtured by the rural surroundings of her childhood. Always curious, Fogelberg has embraced opportunities to study and live abroad, in France, Germany, the USA, Indonesia and Malaysia. Shortly after moving to the US it was discovered, by luck of circumstances, that she was in the last stages of a fatal congenital heart disease. Within weeks she underwent two life-saving open-heart surgeries and began the long battle of recovery. Now she is well and grateful for every day with her husband and two daughters. In January 2016 she relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after four years in Indonesia.

An award-winning poet in Sweden, Fogelberg has always felt drawn to writing in English and switched language when writing the memoir Beautiful Affliction, a Wall Street Journal bestseller, a national gold medalist in the 2016 Independent Publisher Book Awards, and a finalist in the 2015 USA Best Book Awards and the 2016 International Book Awards. Beautiful Affliction is translated into German and published by Bastei Lübbe in October 2016, with the title Mein Glück kann jeden Tag zerbrechen.

Fogelberg’s writing has been featured in The Huffington PostWriter’s Digest, First For Women, Women’s World, We Heart Writing, She Writes, Terri Giuliano Long, and Women Writers, Women’s Books.
