Monkeys & Writing

Monkey stone carving

Selamat sore!

Good evening!

As the Javanese afternoon slowly turns to evening, the sinking sun breathing gold rims to the leaves of the palm trees, I felt I wanted to share with you these pictures of the jungle. Maybe because my work in progress is set largely in the jungle, or maybe because I haven’t been to Bali in a while and start to miss it, or maybe simply because the monkeys are adorable 🙂

So I took these pictures in the jungle outside Ubud, the famous Monkey Forest, and there really are a lot of monkeys everywhere, munching their bananas, playing, quarreling and teasing each other and stealing whatever food or water you planned to carry with you into the jungle. (Tip: don’t search in your bag for your camera or the monkeys will think you’re about to grab some food and you’ll end up with a “monkey hair day”.)

Oh, yes, I also wanted to say thank you. Thank you dear friends, who I have met via twitter, blogging, common writing endeavors, or even IRL 🙂

Writing, as we all know, can be a pretty lonely business. But lately I am feeling less like the monkey above, and more like the cool gang hanging out in the tree below. Thanks for that peeps!

Writing can also be very abstract, but sometimes it helps finding a picture that can symbolize the word juggling. In my case I like this picture:

Lion stone carving

I want my writing  to be crafted like the balinese traditional stone carving; solid like the stone, beautiful like the ornaments but still strict and contained, which the horizontal lines make sure of, a little terrifying, but with a smile, and fun, like the flowers coming out of the lion’s ears 🙂

Let’s end here, before I start rambling about the beauty of the green moss and from there to Elizabeth Gilbert’s latest book The Signature of all Things… Boy, there was a lot of moss in that book, in a good way of course, I really learned a lot!

Hope you’ll have a great weekend friends!

The Perfect Writing Spot?

Lene Fogelberg Bali Nusa Dua

A couple of weeks ago I posted this picture on twitter with the following caption:

“I think I might have found the perfect thinking/writing/doing nothing spot.”

Within days it was retweeted 24 times, which was amazing to me, this was after all my very first tweet!

And more: I received replies like this one:

“I know jealousy is a no-no, but seriously? I think this is one situation where it’s completely warranted! Good for you.”

🙂

The writing aspect of my spot on the beach below my favorite tree, might have been a little exaggerated though. Seriously, who can get anything done with this view?

Turned out to be the perfect reading spot. The one thing I forgot to mention in my tweet 🙂 Actually thinking and doing nothing worked out pretty well as well 🙂

Waterlilies in Bali

Waterlilies in Bali.

They speak to me like poetry, their heads tilting toward the sun and their leaves floating effortlessly on the surface. Nearby a waterfall, water cascading down the rocks, bringing music to the words, and a dragonfly gently humming the tune.

Frangipani, Plumeria…

Frangipani

I had never seen them before moving to Indonesia, these wonderful flowers growing from the branches of crooked, generous trees. Generous because they don’t hold on to their treasure, but sprinkle the flowers on the ground, in the water of ponds and pools, in the grass, in the hair of other trees and bushes and people too. Sprinkles of white and yellow and pink turning the whole world into a festival.

Frangipani

No wonder these flowers has so many names: Kamboja, Plumeria, Frangipani, Temple flower… In Sweden we have a saying: “Kärt barn har mÃ¥nga namn.” A beloved child has many names.

Greetings from Indonesia!

Welcome old and new friends! For you who found this place through my old blog, there is a lot you will recognize here. Mostly it’s the same, only I switched language, and as you may have noticed in the Header, this blog will have a slightly new angle towards books and writing, which is some of my main interests, besides hanging out with my awesome family, travel, photography, and a bunch of other stuff like surfing (yes, I mean the internet) and watching movies and youtube clips with my daughters.

I do love Literature, always have, but I am also hopelessly curious and interested in mostly everything, so I guess this place will be like a box of chocolate: you never know what you’re gonna get 🙂 (Thank you Forrest Gump)

I also love comments, please don’t be shy and don’t hesitate to comment in your mother tongue, we’ll sort it out somehow 🙂

Yep, that’s about it.

Thanks for stopping by,

♥Lene
